Each fall semester begins with Welcome Week, which is part of The College’s First Year Experience (FYE) Program and has been created to enhance the transition for first year students into the TCNJ community. Anti-Violence Initiatives is involved in Welcome Week through these ways:
- SAVE (Student Anti-Violence Educators) Peer Educators are assigned 2-3 freshman floors. The SAVE PE’s will visit their freshman floors during Welcome Week to introduce themselves and AVI. This is the first exposure for first year students into the culture of caring and respect at TCNJ.
- The highlight of AVI’s involvement in Welcome Week is the annual “Sex Ed 101” presentation by River Huston in Kendall Hall Main Stage. River Huston encourages lively discussions on sensitive topics such as sexuality, consent, sexual assault, and relationships. Using texts, tweets, and IMs, get answers to your most intimate questions without getting embarrassed, and participate in the program that will have you talking for the rest of the semester!
